Amaretto from Italy. In this style of liqueur the almond flavour traditionally comes not from almonds but from apricot kernels — which carry the same aroma compound, benzaldehyde, in higher concentration.

In the glass

Marzipan and bitter almond, with caramel and a light roast note. Sweet, with a bitter counterweight on the finish.

Serving

Over ice with a strip of lemon peel. In coffee, over ice cream, or as an ingredient in an Amaretto Sour.
