Averna Amaro Siciliano – 0.7 l and 1 l

Amaro from Caltanissetta, made since 1868 to a recipe from the town’s Benedictine monastery. Herbs, roots and citrus peels are macerated in alcohol and rounded off with caramel.

In the glass

Orange peel and caramel first, then the bitterness of gentian and wormwood. Noticeably softer than most northern Italian amari.

Serving

Over ice with a slice of orange as a digestif. Behind the bar, the base for a Black Manhattan.
