Anís del Mono Seco – 0.7 L

Anise liqueur from Badalona near Barcelona, made there since 1870. The sharply faceted bottle with the monkey label has barely changed since the 1888 World Fair — in Spain it is part of the furniture of any older bar.

In the glass

Dry, clear anise with a fine liquorice-root note. Forceful, without the sweetness of the dulce version.

Serving

Ice-cold and neat after a meal, or as a palomita: a measure of anise in water, which turns milky.
